Two Brands of Cribs Recalled by Consumer Product Safety Commission
“Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Target Corp. and Babies R Us recalled cribs with tubular metal mattress- support frames because they can suffocate or strangle infants, U.S. safety regulators said.
“The cribs are made by Simplicity Inc., which is out of business, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said today in a statement. A one-year-old in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, suffocated in April 2008 after being trapped between a Simplicity frame and the mattress, according to the statement. The agency has 13 reports of the cribs collapsing.
“The agency and LaJobi Inc. separately recalled 217,000 Graco-brand drop-side cribs after 99 reports of accidents with hardware that failed, according to a statement. In two cases, children were trapped between the mattress and the crib’s side before being freed. Graco Children’s Products Inc. is owned by Newell Rubbermaid Inc. LaJobi is based in Cranbury, New Jersey.”
