How Childbirth Has Changed Over the Centuries
Cheree Cleghorn | February 7, 2010

Tara Parker-Pope, who writes Well for The New York Times, interviews a doctor-author about how views of childbirth have changed—or have not changed—over the centuries.

The author, Randi Hutter Epstein, is a mother of four, too. Nothing like having plenty of field experience before writing.

It’s fascinating.

Check out the interview.

The New York Times

“After completing medical school and giving birth to four children, physician Randi Hutter Epstein knew a thing or two about childbirth. Even so, she remained intrigued by the wonder of it all.

”A burst of human life from two half sets of genetic material is nothing short of a miracle,’’ writes Dr. Epstein in her new book, “Get Me Out: A History of Childbirth from the Garden of Eden to the Sperm Bank.’’

“Dr. Epstein, a medical journalist and occasional contributor to The New York Times, explores how the birth experience from conception to delivery has changed over the centuries – and also how much it hasn’t.”
