In Brief
The question has been whether there would be a “round three” for the pandemic H1N1 influenza.
Recently, cases have been declining in the U.S.
However, the official influenza season ends in May and some have wondered whether, because this is normally a peak period for seasonal flu, whether H1n1 would reappear.
The CDC says although cases in pneumonia and influenza rose sharply last week, these statistics still are considered a “blip.”
“Deaths from pneumonia and influenza across the country rose sharply in the weekly flu report released Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but a spokesman for the agency called it merely “a blip we’re checking out.”
“It was premature to conclude that any third wave of swine flu was emerging, said the spokesman, Thomas Skinner.”
