Cheree Cleghorn | December 21, 2009

The manufacturer has issued a recall of Vicks DayQuil Cold & Flu 24-count LiquiCaps Bonus Pack.

As this Medpage Today item says, parents who mistakenly bought this product believing it has the needed child-proof backing may call P&G at 1-800-251-3374 for a refund or replacement coupon. No other products are being recalled by the company, Proctor and Gamble.

This recall is voluntary. There are no reports of harm to children because they were able to open it and take it without adult supervision. Children who swallow several capsules can suffer damage or death.

This product is considered appropriate for children under 12 only with a doctor’s recommendation, the physician research service says.

“Procter & Gamble voluntarily has recalled one of its cold and flu medications because packages of blister packs labeled as child-resistant don’t have child-resistant backing.

The company said it has not received any reports of children accidentally consuming the drug.

” Consumers who purchased the recalled DayQuil believing it was in child-resistant packaging can call P&G at 1-800-251-3374 for a refund or replacement coupon.
